Blocked Drains Guildford Case

WHEN ‘ROD’ MADE THE PROBLEM WORSE

Mrs H from Guildford called Blocked Drain Company because the occasional smells from the sewer inspection chamber (manhole) were getting more frequent.

Mrs H had already had a local ‘handy man’ visit twice and he had used drainage rods which initially cleared the problem, (or so she had thought), but the smells and blockages kept returning.
After hearing our radio advertisement on Eagle Radio, Mrs H called us to arrange a fixed fee visit as she wanted to get this drain problem fixed once and for all.

Our engineer arrived with 47 minutes of the phone call and after listening to what Mrs H told him, immediately got to work by putting a remote control camera into the inspection pit.

The problem was clear to the engineer and to Mrs H who was able to stand next to our van and watch the CCTV screen too.

After removing two broken off ‘DIY grade drain rods’ exactly 8 meters down the pipe, the camera showed what looked like a brick that was lodged at a bend in the pipe and it was this which was causing the blockages!

Our engineer was able with the use of the CCTV explain to Mrs H why when the brick was in one position the flow although restricted did allow waste to pass it, and when the brick moved to a side on position, it restricted the pipe and hence caused a blockage backing up along the drain.

Our engineer quickly loosened and recovered the brick from the drain which turned out to be the same type of brick that was used to construct the driveway.

According to Mrs H, a previous inspection chamber cover that had been made of plastic with paving bricks inset into it had broken and been replaced some 8 months earlier.
After sending the camera back down the pipe for one more look, our engineer was satisfied that he had cleared the problem and that there were no further bricks (or DIY tools) hidden within the drainage system!
Mrs H was delighted that at last the ongoing mystery of her erratic blocking drains was found and finally sorted out properly.

Mrs H commented, “This had been a most annoying problem and one that I had thought on two previous occasions had been repaired by our local handyman fellow”.
“From watching the television fitted within your engineers van, I feel I now know more about the drainage of my property than the builders who built it some 36 years ago”.

Mrs H continued; “I have learnt a valuable lesson, and fortunately for me at £86.25 it was not an expensive one. The next time that I need any job done on the house, I will rely on expert services and not a so called handyman”.

“I have telephoned the fellow to advise him that I have his two drainage rods that he mislaid, he has not returned my telephone call or indeed come around to collect them, I do not imagine that he will”.

A very pleased Mrs H concluded, “As you know, I have recommended your services to my friends Mr & Mrs J and I understand that they have accepted your estimate for the renovation of the inspection chamber in their garden”.
“I am sure that you will provide the same first class service and indeed they too will be very pleased with your work as I am”.

“Finally, will you again please thank your engineer James, he was most courteous and polite throughout, and his manner and professionalism is a credit to your company”.
